The Creams Don't Work

August 25th 2006 01:31
Every time you flick on the telly it seems there's a newly discovered secret ingredient to make us appear 10 years younger. Last week it was green tea, before that it was vitamen C, an exotic unknown plant with a long name, mud, you get the idea. Does any-one ever stop and think what's really going on here? A cream that has 20% green tea to which has been added a mutlitude of chemicals slapped on your face is going to do what exactly?
It's been said a hundred times before, but if there was a wrinkle smoothing cream out there that actually worked you'd be hard pressed to come acroos someone who looked a day over 30.

The truth is a cream, with all it's micro technology, will never erase wrinkles because the only thing that can regulate the hydration and cell make-up of your skin is your body.
Just like your body will heal over a wound, so too will it control the amount of oil and collagen and whatever it produces unique to the human species. Olives aren't part of the human species, neither are lambs or avocados, so their oil makeup is different. Do you think that as we evolved our bodies found some benefit in over-producing it's natural oil or letting it dry out? Do you think that the hunter gatherers suffered with premature aging? We have been galavanting around in the sun for hundreds of thousands of years and our bodies evolved and adapted to that environment. The nutrients it recieved, the sun, the air, everything contributed to a finely tuned system that regulates it's processes as needed.
What happens when you change the diet to a devitalized mess, add polluted air and comparably little excersize? Your skin doesn't react to things like the sun the way it's supposed to that's what. Studies conducted by Herbert Shelton from 1920-1970 showed babies who were given correct diets and exposed to the sun in sensible amounts developed beautiful skin that didnt freckle or burn easily even though the parent's did. It's common sense people, rubbing crushed green tea leaves on your face isn't going to do squat. But here's an idea! How about drinking it so your body actually has a chance to digest and assimilate those anti-oxidants! The little money you spend will comtribute to an independant health shop instaed of some corporate exec who's trying to sell you Bio-active Self-peeling Nutrient-infused Age-defence Cleansing Mud.[/SIZE]

I have to agree with you. If it's the outside you're interested in improving, what goes inside is what will make the difference. I am also a strong believer in sleep being a major contributor to healthy (and yes, younger) looking skin.

I've been trying to beat signs of aging by spluring on one eye cream after another. And there have been absolutely no results at all! So disappointing. I always get sucked into these ads promising instant results.
